Receiving Jesus as the Messiah requires a commitment on your part, more than just intellectual consent. You must understand:
1. RELATIONSHIP
God desires a relationship with each of us. He is holy, yet also a God of love. He desires an intimate relationship with us to protect us, provide for us, and to see that we live a life fulfilled. First and foremost, this relationship is an intended part of our being, and as the Creator, God reaches out to us to have this relationship.
"Can a woman forget her baby, or disown the child of her womb? Though she might forget, I never could forget you. See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands." (Isaiah 49:15-16)2. SEPARATION
Despite His great love for us, God does not force us to have a relationship with Him. This is why you see evil in the world today. Because God created mankind with free-will, we have the ability to choose to do right or wrong. It is our wrongs, or what is called sin, that separate us from God. God is not fickle when it comes to His holiness. He cannot tolerate wickedness. Our sin has a consequence--separation from the loving God. It is important to recognize that we cannot truly experience God's love because of sin. More specifically, your own individual wrongs need to be addressed. This includes all of us.
"But your iniquities have been a barrier between you and your God, and your sins have made him turn his face away and refuse to hear you." (Isaiah 59:2)
"All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.." (Isaiah 64:6)3. MESSIAH
God has made provision in order to restore us unto relationship with Himself. This has always been His plan--that through the Jewish people He would bring a person who is both a King to lead us to salvation and a mediator of a New Covenant. The Scriptures speak of this person as the Messiah. It was prophesied that He would be a sin-bearer who would take upon himself the consequences of sin as a sacrifice for us all. This role was fulfilled in the work and life of Y'shua, (Jesus). The fact that God raised him from the dead as predicted also validates His claims. We have to trust in God's provision.
"But he was wounded because of our iniquities. He bore the chastisement that made us whole, and by his bruises we were healed." (Isaiah 53:5)
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Messiah died for us." (Romans 5:8)
4. ACCEPTANCE
God offers to forgive us of our sins by not relying on our own ways any longer, but by having faith in the atoning work and grace of the Messiah, Jesus. Receive this forgiveness of sins and a personal relationship with God by asking Y'shua (Jesus) to reign in your heart.
"And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Joel 2:32)
"...If you confess with your mouth "Y'shua is Lord", and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10)If you believe and would like to follow Y'shua, you can confess with your mouth by saying the following prayer:
Dear God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, I know that I have sinned and am separated from you. I believe that you have provided atonement for my sins and offer forgiveness through Y'shua, Jesus, the Messiah. With this prayer, I place my trust in Y'shua as my Lord and Savior. I thank you for cleansing me and restoring me to a relationship with you through Messiah.
Amen.
